Morning Smile - Amin

1212-17
Smile and others will smile back. Smile to show how transparent, how candid you are. Smile if you have nothing to say. Most of all, do not hide the fact you have nothing to say nor your total indifference to others. Let this emptiness, this profound indifference shine out spontaneously in your smile.(Jean Baudrillard (b. 1929), French semiologist. "Astral America," America (1986, trans. 1988).)

To win hearts, smile kindly on people's weaknesses.(Mason Cooley (b. 1927), U.S. aphorist. City Aphorisms, Ninth Selection, New York (1992).)

You took my heart in your hand
With a friendly smile,
With a critical eye you scanned,
Then set it down,
And said: It is still unripe,
Better wait awhile;
(Christina Georgina Rossetti (1830-1894), British poet. Twice (l. 9-14). . . The Complete Poems of Christina Rossetti. Vol. 1. R. W. Crump, ed. (1979) Louisiana State University É Press.)
